Kenya is an agricultural country with a relatively high level of development of diversified agriculture. Agriculture and horticulture are the two largest sectors of the Kenyan economy.
Agriculture accounts for 34.1% of GDP, with an employment rate of 53.8%. Tea, coffee, corn, grains, sugar cane, fruits and vegetables are among the main agricultural crops produced. Meat and dairy production, fish farming and poultry farming are well developed.
Kenya is the third largest tea producer and the first exporter (by volume) in the world, the 9th largest producer of legumes, the 14th largest producer of oilseeds, the 3rd largest exporter of flowers and is among the twenty largest exporters of coffee.
Industry accounts for 17.4% of GDP. Consumer goods (plastic products, furniture, batteries, textiles, clothing, soap, cigarettes, flour) are produced in small quantities. The main branches of manufacturing industry are: food, textile, printing, clothing, car assembly, oil refining, chemical, mechanical engineering, production of alcoholic beverages, spare parts for cars, cement, paper and metal products. The main industrial centers are Nairobi and Mombasa.
