Nairobi is the main economic and cultural hub of East Africa, so there is always something to do here. The main attraction of the city, of course, is the Nairobi National Park – the only national park in the world within the capital city.
In 2022, the entrance fee for tourists is $ 43, you need to pay separately for a car with a driver – about $ 120 for a six-seater. In addition to a safari, in the National Park you can visit a shelter for wild animals, a small zoo Safari Walk, a rehabilitation center for elephants Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, a giraffe center (Giraffe Centre), from where you can see the Instagram hotel Giraffe Manor.
A trip to the National Park is often combined with a visit to the house of Karen Blixen, a writer from Denmark who lived in Kenya for a long time and became famous among the local population. You can watch the film “Out of Africa”, based on the book she wrote.
You can also enjoy nature closer to the city center in Karura Forest or the Arboretum botanical garden.
The main museum of the city is the National Museum of Nairobi. Here you can learn about the origin and evolution of man, the history of Kenya, its flora and fauna, the national currency and much more. If you are lucky, you will get to cool temporary exhibitions and displays. On the territory of the museum there is a charming botanical garden with aloe and an atmospheric restaurant Museum Heritage Restaurant.
Lovers of niche African art will like private art galleries, which in addition to exhibitions host atmospheric parties and markets – for example, Kioko Art Gallery or Kuona Artists collective, located in the city center. The One Off Contemporary Art Gallery, opened in 1994, is a must visit for those who are looking for privacy and want to see (or even buy) works of recognized artists from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and other countries of East Africa. It is an absolutely magical place, reminiscent of a hobbit house lost in the African forest. The gallery has an interesting sculpture garden on its territory.
